Miah Persson
Swedish Soprano Miah Persson grew up in Hudiksval, Sweden. She participated in amateur theatre and choirs as a young girl. She went to Stockholm in 1991 to study lieder, sacred music and opera at the private Conservatoire Kulturama in Sweden after living in Paris for a year to perfect her French. (She speaks fluent English, as well as French, German, and Italian and she has studied Russian as well). In 1994, she joined Opera Studio 67 in Stockholm and in 1996 she continued her studies at the University College of Opera, which is also in Stockholm. She has studied privately: performance with the American director Talmage Fauntleroy, interpretation with David Harper, and bel canto with Oscar Figueroa.
She has sung roles including Mozart’s Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Engelbert Humperdinck’s Gretel, Sandrina in La Finta Giardiniera, Frasquita in Carmen, Dorinda in Orlando and, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. She made her French debut singing Héro in Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées with the European Union Opera and has performed Scarlatti’s Griselda at the Deutsche Staatsoper, Berlin, and in Innsbruck with René Jacobs. She has sung Nanetta in Falstaff as well at the Aix en Provence Festival and Théâtre des Champs Élysées. She has sung The Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw at Frankfurt Opera, Almirena in Rinaldo in Montpellier and Innsbruck and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier with the New Zealand Festival. She has also appeared in New York, London, and Lucerne, with the Frankfurt Opera and at the Théâtre de la Monnaie. More recently she performed the role of Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte in Glyndeborne with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Sifare in Mitridate, Re di Ponto at the Salzburg Festival, and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier in Chicago and San Francisco. She currently lives with her husband, tenor Jeremy Ovenden, and their three-year-old daughter.
